- State President William Behnke and Chapter Vice President/Genealogist Ben Porter represented the Indiana Society in standing vigil at the tomb of George Washington at his Mount Vernon home in Alexandria, VA on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
- Wives Joyce Behnke and Rachel Porter traveled with their husbands for this honorable event, representing the Indiana SAR Ladies Auxiliary.
- Kentucky, New Jersey, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia societies also participated (possibly others unknown to this webmaster.)
- The vigil was paused when the US Secret Service cleared out the musket-bearing compatriots while Secretary of, War Pete Hegseth as he visited the tomb with his family. SAR members present at the time formed an honor guard as Mr. Hegseth passed through. He expressed how pleased he was with the SAR’s presence and took the time to shake every participants’ hand and take pictures. Indiana Society President Behnke gave Mr. Hegseth a John Martin Chapter Challenge Coin.
